Preliminary investigations seemed to indicate that the turret was in remarkably good condition. Beyond evidence of some minor damage and a mild attack of surface rust it was virtually complete and everything seemed to work.

This is a view of the loader's hatch, in the open position. Notice that the locking mechanism is similar to that used on a submarine, no doubt because it must lock tight for deep wading.
Now, while the turret was easy to view, we did a photographic survey of the interior, mainly in order to record all the details of lettering that could be read. Various containers can be seen in this view of the back of the turret.

Also visible is the commander's seat (without squab) in the folded down position while the black panel at the top is a thin steel sheet, clearly intended to protect the commander from flash when the gun fired. At some stage this had been bent double to get it out of the way
