A BRIEF HISTORICAL INTERLUDE

These two photographs come from the archive of the Portsmouth daily paper The News, who kindly permitted us to use them on our website.

They are superb quality prints showing Tiger 131 on tour.

It appears to have visited Portsmouth in 1945 and, as one can see from the Sherman Firefly on the transporter behind it this must have been something of a travelling circus.

The tank was still fully stowed at this time, including the air cleaner system at the back. But there is also evidence of repainting.

Notice also that it is being carried on a 40-ton transporter trailer which must have been under considerable stress.

These pictures raise the question of where else the Tiger went in this tour.

It would be an interesting project if anyone with an interest in Tiger tanks and local history could check their local newspaper archives and let us know.

Thanks again to The News in Portsmouth for permitting us to use these photos.
